About This Translation

The source of our translation is the Bible in Greek: the New Testament, and the Septuagint (LXX) for the Old Testament.

This Greek-Romanian Interlinear supports anyone who wants to approach the Greek text of the Bible, to deepen their insight and search of faith in the Word of the Lord.

The current text is, and will continue to be, a work in progress, at least until the complete translation of the entire Bible. Therefore, we present a provisional text that is continuously being completed, adapted, harmonized, and corrected as the work progresses.

Translation Method

This interlinear translation was made:

  1. Word-by-word from the Greek text of the NT and Septuagint established by Charles Van der Pool
  2. Using excellent modern Ancient Greek dictionaries
  3. Using grammatical characterization of Greek words from NT and Septuagint
  4. Consulting existing translations in Romanian, English, and French
  5. For the OT, additionally consulting:
    • Greek text of the Septuagint by Alfred Rahlfs (1935)
    • Current Greek Orthodox Bible text
    • Masoretic Text when necessary

What is an Interlinear Bible?

Instead of explanations, let's use Genesis 1:1, the first verse of the Bible:

εν αρχή εποίησεν ο θεός τον ουρανόν και την γην

If we don't know Greek, we cannot explore this text at all!

Everything changes, however, if below each Greek word we have the corresponding translation in Romanian:

εν αρχή εποίησεν ο θεός τον ουρανόν και την γην
în început a făcut - Dumnezeu - cerul și - pământul

This is an interlinear Bible - a powerful tool that allows anyone, regardless of their knowledge of Ancient Greek, to explore the original biblical text word by word.

Source of the Greek Text

New Testament

The Greek text of the New Testament is based on the Apostolic Bible Polyglot (ABP) edited by Charles Van der Pool. This text is primarily derived from the Textus Receptus with careful consideration of manuscript evidence.

Old Testament (Septuagint/LXX)

The Greek text of the Old Testament is based on the Septuagint from the Apostolic Bible Polyglot, which itself is based on:

The Septuagint (abbreviated LXX) is the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, made approximately 250-150 BC. It was the Bible used by early Christians and is frequently quoted in the New Testament.

Note to Readers

Translation from the original languages of the Bible is a difficult undertaking. We ask readers to be patient with our work and to understand clearly that this text is not intended as a definitive translation, but rather as a proposal and an attempt at translation.

Because this translation is interlinear, it will be easy for readers to verify each word we have used, and thus highlight and avoid any errors or awkwardness on our part.

All mistakes or inaccuracies you encounter are mine alone. Readers are invited and encouraged to report them to me.
